In this talk, Dr Fiona Costa will share some ideas for using music in the care of people with dementia. They are for anyone to try - partners, family members, professional carers, musicians and non-musicians alike.
Dr Fiona Costa trained at the Royal College of Music. Her lifelong interest in music, together with a calling to a ministry with older people, has led to a range of different initiatives and interests. As a research fellow at the University of Roehampton, her principal research interest is the effect of music on the wellbeing and quality of life of older people. Her PhD and subsequent research projects have studied the effect of music on pain, stress, anxiety and depression. Most recently her work has focused on the use of music to aid memory and communication in people with dementia.
